ABOUT THE ARTIST
Stephanie Rauschenbusch was educated at Harvard, Columbia, and The New Brooklyn School(which merged with the School of Cast Drawing to become the New York Academy). She began to paint still life in 1970, exhibiting through her career at Noho Gallery, A.M. Sachs, Katherina Rich Perlow Gallery, Bitter Larkin, the Florence Biennale, the National Arts Club (with the Brooklyn Watercolor Society), the Art Students League (with the New York Society of Women Artists), and other locations. She co-curated two exhibitions for the Women’s Caucus for Art, at the Clocktower and Marymount College. She also curated an exhibition at the Painting Center of work by American women artists who painted at the Brisons Veor Residency at Cape Cornwall, England. She is the President of the New York Society for Women Artists and a member of the National Association of Women Artists.
ABOUT THE WORK
I have painted still life oils and watercolors since 1970, often using landscape elements in the backgrounds. For a period, I worked on a grid, making the still life and landscape more abstract than realistic. I am most interested in color and composition. I am absorbed in art history, using Pieter Claesz as the inspiration for my most recent show in 2007.
