ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Paris in 1953, Anne Kolin first became interested in modern art while living in Amsterdam between 1982 and 1988. A frequent visitor to the Stedelijk Museum, she was particularly inspired by the work of Karel Appel and the 'Grande Parade' exhibition of 1986. On her return to Paris, Anne Kolin obtained a Masters Degree in plastic arts at La Sorbonne, where her work was heavily influenced by the paintings of Bacon, Picasso and Giacometti. Since 2005, Anne Kolin's practice has become increasingly concerned with abstract expressionism and gestural painting. Anne Kolin chooses to work and exhibit in Paris and New York since 1996. ABOUT THE WORK
Anne Kolin’s work is deeply influenced by abstract expressionism and gestural painting. Her practice is particularly influenced by the Catalan artist Antoni Tapies, using materials for their direct tactile quality to recall painful wounds buried deep in the memory. The association of materials, the density of paints and their contrasts lead to a self-questionning and a new
vision of one's own feelings.
